Start from the working conditions, not the price per label
Warehouse labels are read by scanners far more often than by people. Before comparing price per label, define the surface the label will sit on, the temperature it will live in, and how many years it must last. Face material, backing, and adhesive should then be chosen as one set.
- Surface: corrugated cartons, plastic bins, smooth metal, and curved drums all start with different grip.
- Temperature and humidity: ambient storage, 8 degree chillers, and sub-zero freezers need different adhesive chemistry.
- Service life: paper is fine for a temporary move label, but asset labels that stay for years should use a synthetic film.
Match the face material to the job

Adhesive is where labels usually fail
Lifted corners and labels that fall away whole usually come from the adhesive rather than the face material. Split the choice by site condition into four groups.
- Permanent: everyday product and logistics labels that should not move.
- Removable: price tags and temporary labels that must peel off without residue.
- Freezer and deep-freeze: stays tacky below zero and does not go brittle in and out of cold rooms.
- High-tack: for curved surfaces, rough recycled board, and plastic bins that standard adhesive will not hold.
Test before ordering production volume
- Apply a sample to the real surface at the real operating temperature and leave it for 24 hours.
- Scratch with a fingernail or coin, and wipe with the alcohol the site actually uses.
- Scan with the exact reader model in use, at both near and long range.
- Cycle through the worst case, such as in and out of the cold room or rain during transport.
Running all four checks shows quickly whether the specification works, or whether the face material, backing, or adhesive needs to change before volume production.
